PUTTING THE LORD JESUS CHRIST FIRST

PUTTING THE LORD JESUS CHRIST FIRST

(Mat 16:24 NKJ

Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.

1 .true disciples are devoted to Jesus Christ.

A .there are three characteristics of man, self, family, possessions,

anyone who places these before the lord Jesus Christ, cannot be his disciple,

this is clearly in the words lord Jesus Christ

1 .if any man will come after me, let him deny himself”

(Mat 16:24 NKJ)

Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.

love for oneself is a standard for measuring the amount of love we have for others

(Mat 19:19 NKJ)

Honor your father and your mother,’ and,`You shall love your neighbor as yourself.

(Mar 12:31 NKJ)

And the second, like it, is this:`You shall love your neighbor as yourself1.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”

(Luk 10:27 NKJ)

So he answered and said, “`You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind,’ and`your neighbor as yourself.'”

love for self is innate and is the primary concern of an Unbelieves

2 .if anyone come to me and does not hate his father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sister,

so likewise, whosoever he of you that Forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple

(Luk 14:26 NKJ)

If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he cannot be My disciple.

B .lord Jesus Christ did not conceal from inquirers who wanted to follow him

what the grace of god would accomplish in a believer, he did not promise eternal life which resides dormant in the

human heart, he offered god’s grace which brings a complete change by putting lord Jesus Christ’s new life in man,

the old nature, which put, self, family, or possession first, is put off by old nature, lie not one to another, seeing that

ye have put off the old man with his deed.

(Col 3:9 NKJ)

Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds,

this” putting off” of the old man is equivalent to believing on the lord Jesus Christ’ it takes god’s grace to do this

(Eph 2:8 NKJ)

For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God,

lord Jesus Christ come to dwell within us our old Adamic nature no loner has uncontested control , but it is eliminated, paul had this struggle between the victorious nature of Christ within him and the sin that still dwells in me”                                                                                                                              (Rom 7:17 NKJ)

But now, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me.

C .when an unbeliever understands what will automatically take place as a result of salvation, he may be honest

enough to reject it like the young ruler who came to lord Jesus Christ

(Mat 19:16 NKJ)

Now behold, one came and said to Him, “Good Teacher, what good thing shall I do that I may have eternal life?”

(Mat 19:17 NKJ)

So He said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good but One, that is, God2. But if you want to enter into life, keep the commandments.”

(Mat 19:18 NKJ)

He said to Him, “Which ones?” Jesus said, “`You shall not murder,’`You shall not commit adultery,’`You shall not steal,’`You shall not bear false witness,’

(Mat 19:19 NKJ)

Honor your father and your mother,’ and,`You shall love your neighbor as yourself.'”

Mat 19:20 NKJ)

The young man said to Him, “All these things I have kept from my youth. What do I still lack?”

(Mat 19:21 NKJ)

Jesus said to him, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell what you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.”

(Mat 19:22 NKJ)

But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions.

Jesus told him what must happen in his life for him to receive Christ’s grace or eternal life he must be willing to give up his possessions, Jesus knew that this was not what the man wanted to do but this did not change his declaration of truth, therefore the man remained rich Mateialy, spiritually poor,

d .the lord Jesus in no way demands that, all who follow him sell all their belongings and give to them to the poor however, when he save a person, he must be first in that person’s life, family and possessions must be available for the altar of sacrifice for his sake, the same lord Jesus Christ who told this young man sell that thou hast, and give to the poor

(Mat 19:21 NKJ)

Jesus said to him, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell what you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.

also said” but seek ye first the kingdom of god

(Mat 6:33 NKJ)

But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you

this same lord Jesus Christ also said” for what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?

(Mat 16:26 NKJ)

For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?

what lord Jesus Christ impresses us with is that with lord Jesus Christ first, i fully enjoy my self, my family, and my possession, all life is then subject to his command and direction,

the call to cross bearing was for all who would follow Jesus,

(Mat 16:21 NKJ)

From that time Jesus began to show to His disciples that He must go to Jerusalem, and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised the third day.

(Mat 16:22 NKJ)

Then Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him, saying, “Far be it from You, Lord; this shall not happen to You!”

(Mat 16:23 NKJ)

But He turned and said to Peter, “Get behind Me, Satan! You are an offense to Me, for you are not mindful of the things of God, but the things of men.”

(Mat 16:24 NKJ)

Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.

has given some people the wrong impression that the call to be a disciple of the lord jesus only addressed to believer,

(Mar 8:34 NKJ)

When He had called the people to Himself, with His disciples also, He said to them, “Whoever desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.

(Luk 9:23 NKJ)

Then He said to them all, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily1, and follow Me.

and he said to them all”

he did not address his disciples directly when he said” if any man will come after me

(Mat 16:24 NKJ)

Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.

whosoever will come after me

(Mar 8:34 NKJ)

When He had called the people to Himself, with His disciples also, He said to them, “Whoever desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.

if any man will come after me

(Luk 9:23 NKJ)

Then He said to them all, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily1, and follow Me.

these apply to non belivers just  as

(Joh 3:16 NKJ)

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

does, Jesus wanted those who would truly follow him as his disciples to know that the acceptance of his grace revolutionizes an individual, Christ not only to live wit him, but there is a constant renewal of the new nature which give the old self last place, there is a glory of grace that no love of self, relatives, or possession can give,

the call to be disciples is to all men, and the first step is trusting in him for eternal life,

disciple of Christ live a balanced life,

a .to place in the proper category,

(Luk 14:33 NKJ)

So likewise, whoever of you does not forsake all that he has cannot be My disciple

the lord never taught reckless abandonment of self, relatives, or possessions, he wants us as believers to put them where they belong, should come after Christ, we should never love god with the love which belongs to self, family, and possessions, the love we have for him should be unique, leading us to worship, when we give him the proper love, then our love for others and Temporay possession will fall into its proper place,

lord Jesus Christ asserts that a true believer is  a disciple who, by constant learning and devotion, loses himself for the sake of his glorious savior the joy of believer, to his obedience to lord Jesus Christ

(Mat 16:24 NKJ)

Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.
